GERMAN U-BOAT 516 SURRENDERS. 10 MAY 1945, ON BOARD THE BRITISH DESTROYER HMS CAPRICE. THE CAPRICE, IN COMPANY WITH HMS CAVENDISH, AND A COASTAL COMMAND SUNDERLAND, ENCOUNTERED THE GERMAN U-BOAT 516 ON THE SURFACE FLYING A SURRENDER FLAG IN THE SOUTH WESTERN APPROACHES. A WHALER FROM THE CAVENDISH WAS SENT TO THE U-BOAT WITH SURRENDER INSTRUCTIONS.
